Patch's Poll: Are You a Fan of Reboot Films?

The newest Spider-Man movie is the latest update in a seemingly continuous Hollywood trend of redoing movies from yesteryear.

The newest Spider-Man movie debuted at midnight on July 2, just in time for the Independence Day holiday.

The superhero flick stars Andrew Garfield, often known for his role Eduardo Saverin in “The Social Network,” and Emma Stone, who starred as Skeeter in the movie, “The Help.” It's an iteration of the popular Stan Lee comicbook of the same name, featuring the web-shooting superhero Peter Parker.

It’s also a 10-year reboot, meaning it’s a new take on the first Spider-Man movie that was released back in 2002. Reviews have been lukewarm among certain publications, such as The New York Times and Boston.com.

But one of the points touched upon often among chatter on the Internet is: why a reboot of a 10-year-old film? The last Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man 3, came out just five years ago. Did we really need a whole series reboot so soon?

But, let’s not just pick on Spider-Man. It seems like Hollywood continues to reboot a number of different series every few decades, including Batman, The Clash of the Titans and the upcoming Blade Runner movie.

So, Patch readers, we want to know what your thoughts are on reboots. Do they bother you at all or are you happy to see an update of your favorite action flick from the 1970s, 1980s or, in Spider-Man’s case, early 2000s? Take our poll and share your thoughts in the comments.
