Stonington-Mystic Food Fight: Best Place To Eat When Someone Else Pays

We want to know what's your choice for the best place in Stonington, Mystic or Pawcatuck to eat when someone else is picking up the check?

When I was in college and mentioned to anyone—friends, relatives, professors—that my parents where coming to visit the question I immediately got was, so you’re going to make them take you out to dinner, right?

Sometimes, it’s just nice to have someone else pay. If you knew someone else was picking up the check and you got to pick the restaurant, where in Stonington, Mystic or Pawcatuck would you go?

Each month on Food Fight, we look for your help to highlight the best places in the area for , , pasta and more. Here’s how it works:

  • We'll ask a question about your favorites.
  • We invite you to post your nominations in the comments below.
  • We hope you'll also spread the word about this to your friends on Facebook and Twitter and get them involved.
  • Submit comments until 5 p.m. Wednesday.

  • We'll take the top three or four nominees and post an article first thing Thursday morning.
  • That article will include a poll with the top nominees.
  • After the poll starts on Thursday, you'll be able to vote till Friday at 9 a.m.
  • On Saturday, we announce the winner.

This restaurant review is all about you—your ideas, your feedback and your voice—so we hope you will chime in and check back.

One of the best and newest places I've found to eat at is The Oyster Club in Downtown Mystic. This restaurant has a beautiful selection of farm-to-table (all local ingredients) meals, a beautiful dining area and friendly service. As their ingredients depend on what is currently in season their menu changes every single day, so eating here will never get boring! Recently I enjoyed a Swordfish cooked in miso soup with spinach and jasmine rice. It was incredible. Their dessert menu is also something to pay attention to. The party I was with all enjoyed the ginger ice cream sandwiched between two giant cookies-it truly was the best ice cream sandwich ever. Their oysters are of very high quality and delicious as well. They carry Harney and Sons tea (Yum!) for the tea drinkers and have a full alcohol bar. Definitely a score for Downtown Mystic.

It is usually me paying, and yeah, 50% I can write off as a business expense, but if someone else is buying I still pick Octagon at The Mystic Marriott. Incredibly fresh seafood and delicious steaks. http://www.waterfordgrouprestaurants.com/octagon/index.php

Some one else is paying? hands down: DPI from the goat cheese appetizer to the fillet with two sauces I have only had wonderful meals there... when we have friends come to town and want to know where to eat it is always DPI! Downstairs or up you just can't beat it. PS. If I am paying I'm bringing you to Seahorse, great food and service but a little lower price point.

I still haven't been to The Oyster Club to eat. I was there for the ribbon cutting and the food looked delicious though.
