Update: Garage Deemed A Total Loss In Denison Avenue Fire

The Connecticut Fire Marshal's Office will help to determine the cause of the fire.

11:45 a.m.: Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire at a garage at 54 Denison Ave in Mystic this morning.

The , , Noank Fire Department, Subase Fire Department, , L&M Paramedics and responded to the fire at about 10:30 a.m.

“It was a first alarm response, because of the amount of fire,” Mystic Fire Department Chief Frank Hilbert said.

Within 10 minutes the fire departments had the fire under control. No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

The Mystic Fire Department was remaining on the scene while waiting for the state fire marshal’s office to arrive. Hilbert said the amount of damage and the fact that the structure was already engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scenes necessitated calling in the state fire office to help determine the cause of the fire.

“I don’t think it was deliberate I think it was an accident, but a determination has not yet be made,” Hilbert.

Neighbors stopped by to give the firefighters some cold drinks while they waited.

The garage at 54 Denison Ave. sits about 20-to-25 feet away from the house. The house suffered minor damage, but the garage Hilbert said is a total loss.

Lon and Sally Ackley own the property. The garage stored tools for Lon’s contractor business.

According to Hilbert, Lon, was in the garage about 15 minutes before the fire started, sharpening the blades of his lawn mower.

11:15 a.m.: A building fire at the corner of Denison Avenue and Church Street has been extinguished. Patch will have more updates shortly.

Emergency personnel are currently responding to a structure fire in Mystic at the corner of Denison Avenue and Church Street. The fire began shortly after 10:30 a.m.

The building on fire appears to a garage structure.
