Cops Make Massive Drug Bust on Masons Island

According to police, a man and a woman from Worcester, MA, were receiving large amounts of marijuana at an unoccupied home.

Detectives from the Stonington Police Department arrested two Worcester, MA, residents Friday morning who they say received large shipments of marijuana at a vacant home on Masons Island in Mystic.

According to Capt. Jerry Desmond in a news release, Dan Tran, 40, of 67 Dewey St. in Worcester, MA, and Cindy Huynh, 27, of 200 Vernon Street, also in Worcester, MA, were both charged with possession of marijuana over 1 kilo and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. Tran was also charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Both were being held on $250,000 bond and will appear in court on Monday, April 22, if they don't post it.

According to Desmond, detectives were tipped off at the start of this week that a "significant amount of marijuana" was going to be delivered to a Mason's Island home. Detectives, along with Groton Town Police K-9 officer Richard Savino and his dog "TEK," were able to intercept the shipment and arrest both suspects.

Desmond also clarified that the owner of the home was not involved. The house was unoccupied recently and "it appears that the suspects used the address as a destination to have the marijuana delivered."

The suspects, Desmond said in the release, would meet the delivery service and accept the drug-filled packages. He would not identify the address in question or the name of the shipping company.

The investigation is ongoing.
