Fire Destroys Part of a Garage in Pawcatuck

An afternoon fire at 332 Liberty Street in Pawcatuck damaged a workshop.

Firefighters from the Pawcatuck Fire Department quickly extinguished a fire that broke out in a garage on Liberty Street in Pawcatuck.

The building at 332 Liberty St., is a combination garage and workshop. According to Pawcatuck Fire Chief Tom Long the fire destroyed the L-shaped workshop, but it wasn’t clear how much damage was done to the garage.

No injuries were reported and the homeowners were at the building at the time of fire.

“The owner was in his neighbor’s yard cutting wood and his wife came outside and noticed the fire,” Long said.

The fire originated in the workshop, but Long said the cause was unclear.

The fire began around 2:45 p.m., and was under control by 3:15 p.m.

The fire remains under investigation.
