Man in Amber Alert Case Released on Bond

Daniel E. Candales is being charged with breach of peace, reckless driving, engaging an officer in pursuit and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

The man who caused Stonington Police to issue an Amber Alert on December 31, 2012 when he drove off with a 9-year-old girl was released today on bond, The Day is reporting.

On December 31, 2012, Stonington Police issued an Amber Alert for Daisha Rhodes, a 9-year-old girl who was last seen in Stonington with Daniel Candales in a silver 2005 Ford F-150 or F-250 truck with a snowplow and sander attachment. Rhodes and Candales were found in Richmond, R.I.

On Wednesday, Candales, 42 of 187 Ross Hill Road in Lisbon, Conn., was arraigned in Wakefield R.I. According to the Westerly Sun, Candales pleaded not guilty to charges of reckless driving, eluding an officer during a high-speed pursuit, and being a fugitive from justice. After his arraignment in Rhode Island, Stonington Police took Candales into custody and charged him with two counts of risk of injury to a minor breach of peace, reckless driving and engaging an officer in a pursuit.

According to The Day, Candales was released on $175,000 bond and will appear in New London Superior Court on Thursday.
