Police Officers Talk Distressed Man Down From Mystic Drawbridge

An unidentified man climbed the Mystic Drawbridge early Tuesday morning reportedly threatening suicide.

 

Police officers talked a man threatening to commit suicide off the Mystic Drawbridge early Tuesday morning. 

, Groton Police, the and responded to a call at 1:05 a.m. about a man who had climbed the Mystic Drawbridge.

According to a witness on the scene, the man seemed upset enough that he might not have come down safely, but after about an hour of negotiating, emergency personnel were able to talk man off the bridge.

The witness credited Stonington Police Officer Theresa Hersh with talking the man down, saying “she did a great job.”

Stonington Police Captain Jerry Desmond said emergency personnel checked and treated by the man before transporting him to an area hospital by ambulance.
