Stonington Police Department Receives $1,950 in Grant Money

Congressman Joe Courtney announced Wednesday that Stonington is one of nine eastern Connecticut police departments that will receive grant money to offset the cost of bulletproof vests.

The Stonington Police Department will receive $1,950 from the U.S. Department of Justice to offset the cost of bulletproof vests.

According to a press release from Congressman Joe Courtney, Stonington is one of nine eastern Connecticut towns to receive the grant funding. The money will reimburse the police department for 50 percent of six vests.

“This funding is a significant boost not just to our Towns’ bottom lines, but also to the men and women of our police force and eastern Connecticut in general,” Courtney said. “Ensuring that our first responders have the best equipment keeps them safe in the line of duty and helps them keep the rest of us safe in the process. This program encourages police departments to take action proactively, and repays them for their initiative in response”

Police departments in Clinton, Enfield, Glastonbury, Groton, Madison, Norwich, Suffield and Vernon will also receive money.
