Stonington Police Towing Parked Cars That Violate Town Snow Ordinance

Two inches after 8 p.m. cars must be moved by 8 a.m. or face towing, fines.

It happens after every snowstorm.

Stonington Police Capt. Jerry Desmond issued a parking ban early Thursday, did a town-wide call to residents about the ban and Patch posted it. But there’s no shortage of cars illegally parked all over Stonington from Pawcatuck to Old Mystic. And police are out now either “making contact” when possible or towing cars.

“We try to give people the benefit of the doubt, we work with people, I issued the ban, did the (automated phone message) and the town ordinance is clear: Over two inches after 8 p.m. the car must be moved by 8 a.m.,” he said. “There was plenty of warning. Some people either  or forgot or disregarded. And we’re towing now.”
