$57.9M Budget Heads to Polls For Residents' Yay or Nay

Budget referendum to be held Tuesday. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.


The total proposed 2013-2014 town, schools and capital spending plan goes to voters beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday April 30 for a thumbs up or down. If the budget is rejected, the $57.9 million package will go back to the Board of Finance and on to a second vote.

The budget represents a near 2 percent increase over the current year’s budget.  On April 8, the Board of Finance restored $100,000 to the Board of Education proposed budget and funding for the Director of Planning position following a budget public hearing.

The total budget, $57,937,663, represents a .35-mill increase over last year's budget, a tax rate of 19.88 mills.

Polling locations are: Districts 1 and 3, Stonington Firehouse, 100 Main St., Stonington Borough; District 2, the Pawcatuck firehouse, 33 Liberty St., Pawcatuck and voters from Districts 4 and 5 vote at the Hoxie Firehouse, 34 Broadway in Mystic. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
