Borough Burgess Candidate Q&A: Peg Abramson

Stonington-Mystic Patch Compiled Background Information On All Candidates Running For Borough Office

Stonington-Mystic Patch asked each candidate to answer a questionnaire to give residents information about his or her background. See other election coverage here.

Name As It Will Appear On The Ballot: Mary M. Abramson

Party Affiliation: Republican

Brief Biography: Peg Abramson, Mary M. Abramson on the ballot, is a senior citizen, married, mother to five, grandmother to ten and great grandmother to one. She graduated from the Latin American Institute in New York City, worked for several years as a bilingual secretary in Spanish and English and eventually became the Senior Manager for Video Services in the Communication Satellite division of Western.

Abramson, 80, has served on the Stonington Borough Zoning Board of Appeals since 2000 and is a member of the Stonington Garden Club. She and her husband are members of the Stonington Historical Society, Stonington Village Improvement Association and on the board of the Stonington Small Boat Association where she serves as a recording secretary.

What is the primary reason you are running for this office?
With so many women senior citizens in the borough, there should be a representative on our local governing body. I am long past my term of office on the Borough Zoning Board of Appeals, which I would relinquish, but I still wish to serve the community in some capacity.

What will be your single most important priority if you get elected? Completion of the landscaping for the beautifully restored cannons at Cannon Square. In the interest of full disclosure my husband Robert Abramson is the engineering project manager for the restoration of the cannons but not the landscaping.

How long have you lived in the borough?
23 years.

What’s your favorite thing about the borough?
The ability to walk to so many places including the library, church, stores, and restaurants.

Where do you work and what is your job title?
Retired from Western Union.

What’s been the biggest success of the borough government over the past two years?
The restoration of the cannons in Cannon Square.

What’s been the biggest failure?
The incompletion of the landscaping in Cannon Square and the establishment of a maintenance schedule for the cannons.

Contact Information: Peg Abramson, clubat3ash@att.net, 860-535-3699.
