Household Hazardous Waste Collection Saturday

Residents can bring waste to the Stonington Highway Department from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Stonington Highway Department will host a household hazardous waste collection from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at its facility on Alpha Avenue.

The effort is part of a larger effort spearheaded by the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Resources Recovery Authority (SCRRRA). There are nine collection days in 2013, with Stonington's being the first. Any resident of any participating SCRRRA town is eligible to bring hazardous household waste to a collection event for proper disposal.

Eligible towns are Bozrah, Franklin, Ledyard, Norwich, Stonington, Colchester, Griswold, Montville, Preston, Voluntown, East Haddam, Groton, New London, Salem, Waterford, East Lyme, Lebanon, North Stonington, Sprague and Sterling.

The next collection event is May 4 at the East Lyme Highway Department at 8 Capitol Drive. Here's the rest of the schedule:

  • June 1 at Johnston Middle School on Norwich Avenue in Colchester
  • June 15 at the Norwich Public Works Garage in Norwich
  • July 20 at the Groton Transfer Station on Flanders Road in Groton
  • Aug. 17 at Tyl Middle School in Montville
  • Sept. 7 at the Public Works Highway Department building on Wyassup Road in North Stonington
  • Oct. 12 at the Griswold Highway Garage in Griswold
  • Nov. 2 at 7 Hurlbutt Road in Gales Ferry (across from Ocean State Job Lot)
