Stonington is known as a tourist destination but it isn’t every day that members of the Philippine Consulate stop by Town Hall.
Ambassador Mario Lopez de Leon Jr. and Consul Zaldy Patron were in Stonington Friday to discuss economic development.
“There are many areas where there could be collaboration,” the Ambassador said. “We have a shared history and shared values.”
The Ambassador and Patron expressed impression over Stonington’s high per capita for its small population and discussed with First Selectman Edward Haberek Jr., some of the companies in the area.
“I’d love to build some relationships with your country,” Haberek said.
In 2013 the Philippine Consulate is planning a trade mission and invited Haberek to submit the names of companies in the area that he thought would be interested in going.
