A Guide Of Where To Vote And What Races To Watch

Voters in Stonington go to the polls today for the 2011 Stonington municipal election. Eligible residents will cast votes for a first selectman, selectman, town clerk, town treasurer, tax collector, board of finance member, three board of education members, board of assessment appeals member and four constables.

Voter Eligibility: All registered voters in the town of Stonington are eligible to vote. 

Time: Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Polling Locations For Stonington Residents:

  • District One votes at the at 100 Main St., in Stonington Borough.
  • District Two votes at the at 33 Liberty St., in Pawcatuck.
  • District Three votes at at 35 Deans Mill Rd., in Stonington.
  • District Four votes at the B.F. Hoxie Engine Company at the at 34 Broadway Ave., in Mystic.
  • District Five votes at the at 49 North Stonington Rd., in Old Mystic.

First Selectman

Candidates: . (D) and (R).

Two candidates are seeking the First Selectman seat. Incumbent seeks his third term against political newcomer .

Lifelong Pawcatuck resident, Haberek said his top issues if elected would be jobs and the economy, the town budget and infrastructure.

McKrell who grew up in New Jersey, but is a Pawcatuck small business owner said his top issues if elected would be fiscal responsibility, an open and friendly government that helps build a strong community and growth.

Selectman

Candidates: (D), (R), and the loser of the first selectmen race.

Two candidates will be elected to the board of selectmen. Voters will cast votes for one of the selectmen candidates—incumbent Democrat Crouse or incumbent Republican McAnanly. The two candidates that get top voters including the loser of the first selectmen race will serve on the board.

Board of Finance

Candidates: Bryan Bentz (R) and (D).

Incumbents Republican Bryan Bentz and Democrat John O’Brien vie for an additional term on the board of finance.

Board of Education

Candidates: Stephen Bessette (R), (R), (D) and (D).

Voters will vote for any .

Constables

Candidates: Paul Altman (D), Daniel Booker (R), Sandy Grimes (D), (R), (R), (R), David Santos (D) and Bob Suchy (D).

Voters will vote for any four of eight candidates.

Town clerk candidate (D), town treasurer candidate Marty Booker (R), tax collector candidate (R), and board of assessment appeals candidate David Harma (R), are all unopposed.
