The Stonington in conjunction with Stonington Public Schools has begun work on the field behind . When work is complete in a couple of weeks the town and school system hope the field will be transformed into a usable athletic field.
For decades the field has been unusable due to it being too wet and flooding. About seven years ago a push was made to include drainage work on field as part of the town’s Capital Improvement Projects budget and just recently work begun.
The drainage project includes filling and evening out the field and adding corners as part of an attempt to alleviate the flooding. If successful, the schools and other organizations, including lacrosse, will use the field as an athletic field for team practices and games.
