They came along away to earn their diplomas and certifications at . Some like GED graduate Jiarporn Liborio came all the way from Thailand and is already taking a college course. Others like Kerry Cochran simply needed another way to earn a high school degree, but whether the reason, friends, families and teachers celebrated them Wednesday night.
“Everyone in one’s lifetime should be applauded for something in one’s life, tonight these woman and gentlemen sitting before us deserve to be applauded,” said Stonington Adult Education coordinator Mary Sue Weaver.
At a small family-esque gathering Stonington High School held a graduation for GED graduates, adult high school graduates, the completion of English for Speakers of Other Languages and work towards obtaining American citizenship.
“Every one of us deserve to do great things,” said class speaker Kerry Cochran.
Norwich Regional Adult Education Cooperative Regional Director Mary Berry told the graduates to celebrate their accomplishment but to not let it be the end of the road.
“It’s a ticket, it’s a very valuable ticket,” Berry said. “Rejoice but go further.”
Go further many of them already are, one graduate not even present because they were attending their first college class.
