Stonington High School Will Induct Eight Graduates And One Coach Into The Stonington High School Athletic Hall Of Fame

Over the next week Stonington-Mystic Patch will publish the biographies of each inductee that were compiled by the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame Committee.

Dennis Dwyer participated in football, basketball, track, and baseball at SHS.  He earned football all-conference honors as a junior and senior and was a member of the 1960 Eastern Connecticut Conference champion football team. He received the Stonington Police Association Outstanding Player award for the 1959 Armistice Day game and the 1960 Thanksgiving Day game.

He captained the track team as a senior, when the team took second at the ECC championship meet and fifth at the Connecticut Class M meet. He was undefeated in the shotput during the regular season that year, and at the ECC meet he was shotput champion, placed second in the 440-yard dash, and placed third in the 880-yard dash. At the state meet he was a member of the 880-yard relay team which placed third.

He participated in football and track at Staunton Military Academy in Virginia and at University of Rhode Island. He graduated from Thames Valley State Technical College, and is a veteran of the United States Army.
