Stonington High School Will Induct Eight Graduates And One Coach Into The Stonington High School Athletic Hall Of Fame

Over the next week Stonington-Mystic Patch will publish the biographies of each inductee that were compiled by the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame Committee.

John Gatchek participated in football, baseball, and track at Stonington High School. He was co-captain of the 1938 co-Eastern Connecticut Conference champion football team, and earned All-ECC honors at tackle as a junior and senior. He was co-captain of the baseball team in 1939, starting at catcher and hitting clean-up in both his junior and senior seasons. He also participated in track in the spring, earning Connecticut Class B All-State honors in the shotput; he won the shot and discus events at the UConn Relays in 1939.
