SHS Reverses Decision On X-Block Elimination

X-Block is back. For now anyway.

Last month, Stonington High School administrators announced via email to families that X-Block, the 57 minute open period in the middle of the day "is going away," and they had devised a new schedule where students instead would have "25 minutes for lunch and 25 minutes for activities as part of home base and a new Z Block from 2:15-3:45 for make-up work."

The outcry was immediate both on our story then and on Stonington Patch Facebook where scores of folks complained.

Now, SHS has scraped the plan. At least for now. In an email sent this morning, administrators said: "Stonington High School will not be changing its X-Block configuration for the 2013-2014 school year."

"After discussion with various members of the school community the high school administration has decided to postpone the schedule change. During the upcoming school year district personnel, community members, teachers, students, and parents will work together and evaluate the effectiveness of the X-Block through data collection and direct observations. Our goal at Stonington High School is always to provide an environment where students can meet the high academic standards necessary to be successful in whatever pathway they choose."
