Stonington Schools Consider Graduation Policy

The new policy would list the offenses that would bar a senior from participating in the graduation ceremony.

Stonington students should be used a relaxed graduation policy but all that may change now that the Stonington school board is considering what offenses – on and off campus - will get them barred from their own graduation ceremony.

School board committee members are considering a draft policy that would bar seniors from participating in the ceremony “if they cause more than $100 in damage to school property, have drug/alcohol or weapons policy violation as a senior or have five or more days of suspension in the second semester,” according to a report in The Day newspaper.

The policy is still being written and revised. If approved, the policy would be in effect for the June 2014 graduation.
