Updates From The SPS Field Trip To China

Stonington Public School Students Visit China

Students from Mystic Middle School, Pawcatuck Middle School and Stonington High School as well as school administrators and teachers are in China for a field trip. Mandarin Chinese Education Teacher Feng Xue sent us these updates from their trip:

 July 3 Sunday                           Beijing

Breakfast was served free in the hotel.  We left at 8:30 a.m. for Tian’anmen Square then the Forbidden City.

In the Forbidden City, we had the tour guide, and we stayed together to hear the guide explain what we were seeing. It was hot and crowded, but all the group members stayed with the chaperone and all of us stayed together. We exited together.

We went to a local restaurant for lunch at 12:30.

In the afternoon we went to Olympic Village area for a photo stop at the Bird Nest and Water Cube.

In the evening we went to enjoy Peking Duck Dinner.

Peking Duck Restaurant is one of the most famous restaurants in Beijing. The recipe for Peking duck originated in the very restaurant that we will eat in.  The wait staff carved the duck in front of your table.  Every duck is carved into 108 pieces and every piece has both meat and skin.  It can be eaten several ways, and the different ways was explained to you. All the people find this meal delicious, as well as historical.

After dinner, we returned to hotel around 9:00 p.m.
