Stonington High Crew Rows to Fourth

Every boat placed and overall the team came in fourth in state championship.

Stonington crew placed fourth in the state championships this year and boys crew coach Mike O’Neill told reporters of the Westerly Sun that this was the most competitive state championship he has seen in his four years as the school's coach. Every one of the Bear’s boats made the finals.  

The Bear’s second varsity boat claimed the highest finish for any of the Bear’s boats; which was rowed by Matthew DeCarlo, Coton Faria, Jefferson Donath, Teddy Farrel, Graham Hutter, Andrew McCauley, Clayton Andrews and E.J. Mitchell. Dan Backowski was the coxswain, according to the report.  

Shawn Lenihan, Kenny Blanchet, Nathan Sollenberger, Ina Kilcoyne, Ben Potter, Thomas Reagan, Nathan Vail and Nick Lindholm came in third place in the varsity 3 race with Emily Craig as the coxswain.  

Wells Burchenal, Will Spencer, Alex Green, Adriano DeCastro, Alex Early, Matt Johnstone and Dwight Davis rowed for the boys’ novice boat and Emily Craig was also this boat’s coxswain.

The girls varsity 1 and varsity 2 boats both finished in third place.  

Amelia Palmer, Elena Wostrel, Danielle Herrman, Lauren Hultgren, Lydia Miner, Lyndsay Pratt. Shawna Edwards and Anna McGugan rowed the varsity 1 boat with Renee Sajedian as a coxswain.  

Katherine Brandon, Laura Gallichio, Emily Prue, Megan Wilkins, Sarah Morrison, Caitlin Brunnock, Gabby Soscia and Tori Johnson rowed the varsity 2 board with Jennifer Leandro as the coxswain.
