Thanksgiving Means Turkey, Family and Football

And when the football is Stonington and Westerly, well, it's game on!

According to the Rhode Island High School Sports website, in 1913 Stonington and Westerly tied in the annual Turkey Day game. Now, a century later, my money’s on …

The two teams used to play twice a year so the Bears and Bulldogs have played more games than any other high school rivalry – they’ve met 153 times (give or take).

And next week, they’ll meet again, this year on the brand spanking new Donald Palmer Field at Stonington High School. Should be a great game!

You’re going, right?

Thanksgiving Day game tickets will be on sale beginning Monday Nov. 25 in the Stonington High School main office at the pre-sale price of $3 for adults, $2 for students and senior citizens, children under 10 are free.  Game day tickets are $5.

According to SHS Principal Dr. Steven Murphy, there will be no bonfire this year, however the rally will happen in downtown Westerly-Pawcatuck at 6 p.m.

And as an FYI, the SHS Athletic Boosters are in need of volunteers to help with the concession stand. If you want to help, contact Carole Nossek  cjnossek210@aol.com  ph # 860-912-2616  or Linda Francis gfrancis2003@comcast.net .
