SHS Crew Team Rows For Money And Personal Records

Approximately 50 Rowers Pledged To Try For A Personal Best

Approximately 50 of Stonington High School's rowers  tried for their personal best record Sunday, not on the river, but in front in Stonington and Stop & Shop in Pawcatuck.

The athletes rowed on ergs, rowing machines, and accepted donations while trying to raise funds for the Stonington High School crew team. The athletes asked for pledges hoping to raise about $100 per athlete.

Victoria Georgetti, a junior, was at McQuade's Sunday morning and improved her personal best time during the first piece of a 2000m set. The rowers tried for a 7:50 to 8 minute time frame.

The Erg-A-Thon is the team's biggest fundraiser, according to Greg Wostrel, president of the Friends of Stonington Crew. Wostrel said the team's oars cost around $250-$350 and boats are approximately $30,000.
