Depending entirely on defense contracts is no way to achieve job and economic growth. Why not makeRead More it easier for small businesses to start up and to hire people? Seems like an easy question but Connecticut and this president and congress have made it nearly impossible.

Remember the term Force-Placed Insurance, as it is the leading cause of foreclosures since 1994.Read More False placement of illegally and artificially inflated premiums have been proven to create a negative escrow account, which leads to increased mortgage payments, blocked tax payments, and denial of a loan modification. Is it me, or is anyone else wondering if there is any connection between the shut-down of lab andRead More diagnostic services at this location and the recent union struggles, upon which I know Patch in its usual journalistic excellence tried to get a comment on from L&M to no avail: http://stonington.patch.com/groups/business-news/p/aft-union-charges-lm-segregates-workers-at-stonington-site I am a long time supporter of L&M and in favor of the Westerly Hospital takeover too but something about this whole story with this location rings of something wrong.

BTW, here is the definition of a sign: "A display used to identify or advertise a place ofRead More business or a product." The tugboat in front of the Seaport fits the definition nicely. Stonington P&Z needs to enforce regulation fairly.
Joel May 10, 2013 at 09:12 am
P&Z must treat all businesses the same. Make the Mystic Seaport Museum remove their huge sign onRead More Greenmanville Avenue. The tugboat is nothing but a sign and an obvious violation of P&Z regulations. What right does Stonington P&Z have to arbitrarily attempt to enforce regulations based on businesses they like or dislike?

come on folks the town can use the business. there is a difference between wall art and a businessRead More sign. fp

So what's wrong with optimism? Bill only said he's hoping that his new restaurant is so busy thatRead More people will have to wait to get in. And haven't you all seen lines outside all of the other restaurants in the Boro? He is not excluding anyone .... the "early bird" gets the restaurant table. Let's stop being so negative and give the guy a break. Bill has always done his best to bring customers to The Borough, and as a local merchant, I truly appreciate his efforts.

I can no longer bite my tongue on this subject. First off the first post regarding the drunk driverRead More is fullll of false info. Yes she was involved in an accident however I feel the need to set the record straight! The statement that his mother said he had been at the bar is a out and out lie! One of the responders has seen him there earlier that evening so let's put that to rest. She also states he walked out of the hospital, really? With a broken back and shattered pelvis? Hmmm it took him months to learn to walk again! Did she also forget that she was rat racing with one of her employees in the lane next to her and he did not have a legal reg ins or license and should not have been on the road in the first place? There were many other circumstances involved here but those are just a few. I need to also point out the above poster has been involved in several other serious car wrecks since this one 11 yrs ago. I'm not condoning what happened that night please don't get me wrong I'm just clarifying some facts since she seems to want to blame Elizabeth's establishment for her troubles! Stop punishing yourself and the other driver as I know he too suffers every day and is beyond remorseful for the events of that night. I'm pleased to see the handlebar get this makeover and wish the owners much success! Jealousy is an ugly thing and some people just love to throw a monkey wrench in to take away from the good mechanics that have been put in play here. Best wishes to both the victim and the bar owner.

Having had my last drink 32 years ago, I certainly don't hold bars responsible for drunk drivingRead More accidents any more than I would the bottle of liquor. I never acted "drunk" so would have been served even as I was way over the limit, and to think servers must recognize everyone "drunk" is impossible. I am pleased this bar had a make over and wish them the best. If consulted, I would have suggested a less fearful name which keeps customers away who don't ride Harleys. How about "Pitstop"?

it's a tv show!!!....my god, apparently many of you watch it....I don't...but jeez, alot of negativeRead More opinions on something you keep posting you "reallly know nothing about"...how about being happy that something exciting is going on in town, or does that infringe on your property rights? and how you enjoy them? unless you bought your house over 5o years ago, you must have known there was a Bar there....and trust me...she's gonna do just fine

Looking forward to "THE END" But I have to say I was first in line yesterday when theRead More bridge went up in front of me. Two things~ I miss the old whistle and I was never a fan of the ridiculous new barricade but I had bad premonitions of things to come when watching it work yesterday. As it momentarily got stuck on its way down... It seems it doesn't quite line up with its opening very well. Oh joy! Keep your fingers crossed folks!

Bill, You can eat at the Dog Watch... It's on the harbor and out door seating as well! However, TheRead More Skippers Dock will be a hard loss for my neighborhood... Love going there :(
Tom Little May 2, 2013 at 06:45 am
Water water everywhere but not a place to eat. A big loss for the Borough. Skippers brought a lot ofRead More people to town , more than any other single business. People would walk around after their meal and shop. Store owners are going to feel this. Where else in this area can you eat by the water! Thanks Bill.

I've never had a bad meal there in many years. Service might not have been the fastest but it's notRead More supposed to be McDonald's.
