SHS Chorus Wins — They Will Sing With Foreigner!

The students will perform with the rock band Foreigner on Sunday, May 5.

It's official! The Stonington High School Chorus has won the competition and will perform live on stage on May 5 with Foreigner at Foxwoods/MGM Grand!

The news was announced via Facebook and on the high school website Thursday afternoon.

The SHS Chorus was one of three finalists in the contest to win a chance to sing with the band Foreigner when the group performs at Foxwoods/MGM Grand on May 5.

The finalists were selected by judges and then the winner was selected by a public voting process.

According to the SHS website: "The SHS Chamber Choir recently entered the Foxwoods "Sing With Foreigner" Contest, which was open to all high school choirs. We were selected as one of three finalists and performed on the Channel 3 "Better Connecticut" program.

Update:
Since we posted this story, Stonington Patch caught up withe one of the Chamber Choir singers.

William Chase Cannon, 16, is a sophomore and a tenor in the select choir. Cannon said that he was "really excited" about winning the right to sing at Foxwoods with rock legend Foreigner.

"I heard that (Foreigner) has done this before, picked a (choir) to sing with them and they just kind of wing it," he said when asked about a rehearsal before the show.

"I'm pretty sure we'll just get the key we're singing in and that's it," he said. Sounding rather non-chalant about the whole thing he quickly correted a reporter:
"Oh this is my 'I'm-not-excited-face' but I'm actually really really excited. Everyone is."

Including choir director Christian Stanley, Cannon said.

He said he was not certain about the song choice but is "pretty sure it's "I Wanna Know What Love Is."
