Riverwalk Will Serve its Last Meal on Sunday

Riverwalk has been in downtown Mystic for 10 years.

Steve Turner, owner of Riverwalk, a popular restaurant at 14 Holmes Street, confirmed rumors that the business is closing. Turner said their last day will be Sunday.

Turner employs 16 to 20 people year-around and he hires more during the summer season.

"Everybody's pretty bummed out," he said. "A lot of people depend on their job here."

Riverwalk, which is one of the few restaurants in downtown Mystic with outdoor seating is a popular gathering place for locals and tourists. It is where jovial groups convene after parades, it's where the locals bring their out-of-town guests and it's where families go for dinner and occasions.

Turner had partnerships with local farmers and served fresh, local, seasonal dishes when available.

Riverwalk has been there 10 years, said Turner, and he was hoping to renew his lease and renovate the restaurant. According to Turner, he was offered a 2-year lease, which wouldn't have made the renovations worthwhile.

Turner was not certain if the property owner had another tenant lined up to take over the location.

Turner's not planning a big bash and there will be plenty of food through the weekend so stop in and wish everyone at Riverwalk a fond farewell.
