As a point of clarification, officials first told Patch the number of swimmers rescued was 8, then 6 and now we are told the number rescued was 7.

UPDATED at 4:05 p.m.:
Westerly Police Chief Edward St. Clair said initially while it may have been eight reported, it was "six juveniles in distress." Before police arrived, EMTs reported that :all were ashore and being treated," he said.  Three were transported to the Westerly Hospital, St Clair said. He did not know ages or if they were with parents or guardians. "But all were conscious," he said.
