Town Held A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony For Stonington Animal Care And Control Facility Saturday

The newly renovated Stonington Animal Care and Control Facility officially opened Saturday, October 1, 2011 with a ribbon cutting and open house.

“We appreciate the team effort that really came out of this; we came in with a facility that we can be proud of,” Chief J. Darren Stewart said.

Stewart said the completion of the facility was a town-wide effort that could not have been done without the support of number of people and organizations including residents, the first selectman, the board of police commissioners, highway department and town engineer just name to a few.

According to Stewart, the town received $200,000 from the state Local Capital Improvement Program to complete the renovation and came under budget with a total renovation cost of about $150,000.

“One of the things that's really exciting about this is it’s a community initiative” First Selectman Edward Haberek Jr., said.
