Fiona started drawing “really, really young.”  She could write her name at 3–but she thought of it as drawing her name.

At that age, she drew whatever was happening around her and made it into a story: she dictated the words and her mother wrote them down (see photograph). When Fiona was sad, or frustrated, she’d draw how she felt.

Today, Fiona works in oils, watercolors, and oil pastels. The first painting included in the photographs (the oil of Salt Acres), is one of her favorites.

“I really like the shapes and I like the colors,” Frohnapfel says.

Another oil painting, also included in the photographs, won the first first prize at the New London County 4-H Exposition in North Stonington.

In addition to drawing and painting, Fiona enjoys origami, making clothes for her dolls (she has her own sewing machine), building fairy houses from found materials, her classes at , and creating activity books for her little brother. These activity books (see photographs) include coloring pages, things to cut out,  how to make things like paper plate people (see photo), things to cook, mazes, puzzles, and  little surprises in home-made envelopes.
