Updated: After Stonington Student Death, Schools, Churches Offer Grief Counseling

Update:, Feb. 15, 2012 6:30 p.m.: Stonington schools and churches are offering grief counseling following the unexpected death of a 15-year-old Stonington student. in Stonington announced, Wednesday, that Rev. Mary-Lloyd Brainard and Seminarian Emily Phillips are available for any pastoral needs and for anyone who wanted someone to speak with. “Our hearts are broken, and our prayers and love surround the family and all who have suffered this tragic loss,” the church said in a statement.

Feb. 15, 2012 12:15 p.m.: Stonington Public Schools and will offer grief counseling Thursday evening, following the unexpected death Tuesday of a 15-year-old student.

In a letter to the Stonington Public School community Superintendent said members of the SPS mental Health and Stonington Human Services team will hold a counseling session on Thursday, February 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the SHS library. Staff will help parents process the death and provide suggestions for helping children deal with the loss.

“There is no formal program planned, rather face-to-face supports for one-on-one small groups,” Masterjoseph said. “Parents of children from all levels should feel free to arrive when convenient and stay as long as needed.”

On Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, shortly after 4 p.m., responded to a report a juvenile had died at a residence in Stonington. After responding to the scene Stonington Police and Stonington Ambulance discovered a 15-year-old male had died.

In a statement Police Captain Jerry Desmond said the initial investigation did not indicate anything suspicious, but the case remains under investigation.

Counselors were on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012.
