Mystic Aquarium will release a female Harbor Seal pup 7-8 months old, on Blue Shutters Beach, Charlestown, RI., on Friday, January 24, at 10 a.m.
“Carson” was rescued on June 10, 2013 in Kennebunkport, ME by the rescue organization Marine Mammals of Maine. She began her rehabilitation at the University of New England in Biddeford, ME and then was transferred to Mystic Aquarium on June 12th to complete her rehabilitation. During the admittance exam, she was deemed an abandoned pup approximately 1 week of age. She’s completed her medical treatments, recovered from her ailments, adjusted from a formula to fish diet, and is now ready to go! We hope that you can join us to celebrate her return to the ocean!

Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Program supports animals in need and educates the public about the marine environment and its inhabitants. Mystic Aquarium is a founding member of the Northeast Region Stranding Network. This network in comprised of organizations along the eastern sea coast which have facilities and trained staff to care for sick and injured animals. Marine Mammals are protected species, so only groups and facilities authorized by the National Marine Fisheries Service are permitted to handle these animals.
