DUO ORFEO
Joseph Ricker & Jamie Balmer, vintage electric guitars

A half century ago, Andrés Segovia, the great classical guitarist, famously called electric guitars “an abomination”. Musical possibilities for the instrument have improved a bit since then, so virtuosos Joe Ricker and Jamie Balmer will bring their decades-old American electrics to Stonington for a provocative, tantalizing concert. They will contrast favorite scores by Eric Satie with hidden, underexplored works that have redefined “classical” music between 1887 and our own time.

Hear cutting-edge scores by Eric Satie (France), Arvo Pärt (Estonia), Federico Mompou (Catalunya), John Cage (US), and Valentin Silvestrov (Ukraine) — arranged for two electric guitars. This is subtle music, subtly played.

There’s no such thing as a “bad seat” in the La Grua Center, a spacious performance space a few steps from the surrounding sea.

This event is openn to the public and free of charge.
Seating is limited, please arrive early.
