L+M Shuts Down Lab, Diagnostic Services in Pawcatuck

Lawrence + Memorial Hospital announced Friday afternoon that it would no longer be offer diagnostic and lab services at its Pawcatuck facility at the Stop & Shop Plaza on Route 2, citing a subpar return on investment.

New London, CT — Effective Friday, May 10, 2013, on-site diagnostic imaging and laboratory services will no longer be offered at the Lawrence + Memorial location in Stonington at the Stop and Shop Plaza.

At this time in healthcare, it is imperative that all healthcare organizations review their expense structure in order to reduce costs to compensate for decreasing reimbursement. The Stonington decision is based on the fact that services there have not achieved the volume required to continue them in a financially viable way at that location. Westerly and L+M Hospitals, which have the capacity, will provide the services in the future at locations indicated below.

Services provided by L+M Physician Association in Stonington will continue to be available there “as is.”

Once L+M Hospital imaging and laboratory services relocate from the Stonington facility, the vacated space will be leased by the L+M Physician Association (L+MPA) to accommodate a number of physicians currently employed by Atlantic Medical Group (AMG). After the purchase of The Westerly Hospital by L+M Corporation on May 31, the AMG physicians will become employed by L+MPA.
