Mystic Restaurant Week 2012 Begins Today

Despite Hurricane Sandy, nineteen restaurants are offering one price dinning during Mystic Restaurant Week.

Fig prosciutto pizza, shiitake mushroom bruschetta, baked apple crisp a la monde—there are so many delicious choices to choose. Mystic Restaurant Week 2012 begins today, Saturday Nov. 3.

Even though many of the restaurants participating spent a few days without power due to Hurricane Sandy the 19 participating restaurants have prepared a mouth-watering selection of dishes for the week.

From Saturday, Nov. 3 to Sat., Nov. 10, the restaurants in Mystic and Groton will be offering special lunch and dinner menus at fixed prices. Lunch menus are set at $12 and dinner at $20.12 not including tax and gratuity. Some of the restaurants have made their special menus available online.

The original Restaurant Week began in New York City in 1992 when Tim Zagat and Joe Baum planned the event as way to draw attention to New York’s restaurant industry and according to an article Zagat wrote in The Atlantic as a “goodwill gesture to the 15,000 reporters coming to cover that year’s Democratic convention.”

Since that initial restaurant week the idea has spread around the country and become fairly popular. Connecticut’s Restaurant Week first began in 2008 and in Mystic in 2011. Last year 18 restaurants participated in the event.

Below is a list of the restaurants participating in Mystic Restaurant Week 2012:
