More Than 100 Individuals Filed Papers For Business Trade Names In 2011.

Stonington, Mystic and Pawcatuck welcomed many new businesses to the area in 2011.

More than 100 individuals filed papers for business trade names certificates with the in 2011. Many of these businesses quickly became local favorites; some were beloved former businesses resurrected, and others we are still getting to know.

Here is sampling of the business newbies of 2011:

, 25 Broad St., Pawcatuck. The beloved doughnut shop is back in several locations in Connecticut and Rhode Island, including in Pawcatuck and Westerly. Rumors the shop was coming back began circulating in March and loyal and new customers flocked to Bess Eaton locations as soon as they opened in April.

, 145 Water St., Stonington. Stonington Borough got a little more stylish with the addition of Blu, a women’s boutique.

Clad In Shoes, 152 Water St., Stonington.  Clad In added a dedicated shoe store to the borough in July. The shop took over the old Coldwell Banker spot, opening just yards away from the Clad In clothing store.

, 13 Water St., Mystic. After Bess Eaton the opening of Mystic’s very own farm and ocean to table restaurant may have been the most talked about eatery opening of the year. Located in the old Pomme Fritte building the Oyster Club features a menu based on seafood from local waters and produce from local farms.

Savin Rock Roasting Company, 9 Whitehall Ave., Mystic. Savin Rock Roasting Company didn’t have an easy year. The restaurant next to the Mystic Ramada faced power outages, a tropical storm and even an invasion of zombies, but the place opened, participating in the Taste of Mystic and hosting karaoke on Wednesday nights.

, 22 Bayview Ave., Stonington. The opening of the floral studio in Stonington’s Velvet Mill Studios was a homecoming for New Yorkers Carlos Reyes and Alison Andrews.

Village Sweet Shop, 125 Water St., Stonington. This local store currently holds the title of being the borough’s newest store and also tied for third place in the annual  “Windows of the Borough,” contest during the .

Webster Road, 5 W. Main St., Mystic. When the borough said goodbye to Dockside Dogs, Mystic said hello to home goods store Webster Road, and to owners Stephanie Theberge and Rob Hunter.

, 24 E Main St., Mystic. Bagels are back in downtown Mystic. O.K., maybe the never really left but when Wide World of Bagels opened in July it was the first time in years Mystic had a dedicated bagel eatery.
