New Google Maps a Plus for Local Business

Take advantage of these new Google Maps features for your business!

Have you seen the new version of Google Maps? It won’t be available to the public until later this summer, but you can request access here.

The new Google Maps is full of great new features and is very interactive. While this is certainly good news for those of us who use Google Maps, it’s also an excellent marketing opportunity for local businesses. Here are 3 new Google Maps features along with tips from our CT marketing agency on how you can make Google Maps an effective marketing tool:

1. Interactive Map. Your business name is now displayed directly on the map when it matches a search query. There is also a new way to search for similar businesses: When a user clicks on a business name, the map changes to display other similar businesses. For example, clicking on a Holiday Inn will cause the map to display other lodging options in the area, while clicking on a Starbucks will display other local coffee shops and cafes.

2. Smart Search Box. Searchers can now find directions to your business, visit your website, see photos of the inside and outside of your business, and most importantly, read reviews – all by searching your business name or clicking your icon on the map.

3. Integration of Google+. The business information displayed in the smarter search box is taken from your Google+ Local page. This information includes your exact address, hours of operation, website link, and phone number. Searchers who are logged into their Gmail account will also see reviews and ratings from people in their Google+ Circles, which can be a very powerful source of recommendations.
