See What Hurricane Irene Is Up To By Following Her On Twitter

As Hurricane Irene prepares to batter the east coast she is updating social media users about her strength and progress on Twitter.

Hurricane Irene is tweeting at www.twitter.com/Hurricane_Irene. Her profile reads “Historic Hurricane forthcoming. My name will be retired.”

The account which lists the National Hurricane Center as its website began tweeting on August 19, and features photographs, tips for those in her path and a bit of teasing.

On August 25, at around 1:30 p.m., she tweeted: “I am getting stronger as we speak. Just did chest and triceps. Protein shake. Hoping to get to a category 4 by early tomorrow morning.”

As of 2:40 p.m. Hurricane Irene only had 1,445 followers, but had already warned “Prepare, stock up, and evacuate if you are told to. This is no joke. Have a plan. #Hurricane #Irene.”
