Inn At Stonington Ready For Its Debut As Captain Jack's

Dispatches from 'Hope Springs': the Inn at Stonington recalls the filming of the movie starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carell.

 

It was just about a year ago that guests at the were drinking their morning coffee with Meryl Streep, and in less than a week the quaint stylish inn will make its debut in the movie starring its famous guest.

The Inn at Stonington plays the role of Captain’s Jack’s Inn in the movie Hope Springs. The movie, starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carell, . Partly filmed in Stonington Borough during the fall of 2011, the movie according to a press release from Mandate Pictures and the , follows a woman named Kay (Streep) seeking to spice up her marriage. Kay and her husband (Jones) go to the town of Great Hope Springs (Stonington Borough) to meet a relationship guru (Carell) for “an intense week of marriage and sex therapy.”

“It was a little bit of a surprise,” Inn at Stonington Manager Susan Irvine said. “We had so much fun.”

Irvine said they began talking to scouts from the movie back in April and May of 2011 about rooms for Streep, Elisabeth Shue, Producer Todd Black and a few other people.

Streep stayed in the Inn for about 11 days and frequently came downstairs to drink her morning coffee with other guests in the dinning area and living room.

When filming began in late September the production team asked if they could use the exterior of the Inn at Stonington in the movie.

“It was fascinating to watch the whole process,” Inn Keeper Anne Henson said, with Irvine adding, “We had the most amazing time, just great fun, and the were so accommodating.”

They are both excitedly awaiting the premiere of the movie and have been telling visiting guests about the filming and the other places around the borough also in the movie. And the Inn still has a few of the props used during the movie including the Captain Jack’s Inn sign and a mermaid head sculpture.

I agree. The bottom line is we're all defenseless if we are deprived of our right to bear arms. GunRead More restrictions do nothing to prevent criminals from getting and using guns. They simply impede law-abiding citizens from getting and using them to defend ourselves from the criminals. I don't want to be stuck at a gunfight with nothing more than a cell phone camera.

The unions are in support and wrote this bill with a couple of state representatives. Council 4 ofRead More AFSCME is fighting for this bill to pass for all those that work hard in the State of Connecticut. Any support would be great. Thank you.

my letter will be off monday,i am in total support of this bill. after working your whole life oneRead More should be able to retire with dignity and enjoy your last years. if the unions in the state can work with you for the passage of this bill, this bill SB 54 WILL PASS.
