Boat Dedication Friday for Mystic Fire Department’s Marine One

The Mystic Fire Department invites the community to celebrate the arrival of the new fireboat with a 'wetdown' at 5 p.m. Friday.

On Friday, Sept. 28, the Mystic Fire Department will celebrate its new fireboat, Marine One, with a “wetdown.” The Mystic Fire Department is inviting the local community to help the department wetdown the newest member of the fire department at a 5 p.m., boat dedication ceremony at Mystic River Park.

, came from the national Port Security Grant Program.

The 32-foot boat replaces a smaller 40-plus-year-old boat that the department acquired second hand and used for more than 20 years.

The fireboat supports dive operations, search and rescue operations using an infrared camera, can be used for shipboard and waterfront firefighting and can deliver water hose lines to fire apparatus on shore in areas with no fire hydrants.

While, the Mystic Fire Department owns and operates the vessel it will be also used for regional emergency responses in the greater Mystic area, Eastern Long Island and Block Island Sounds.
