Prayers for safe return of her and dog.
Bree Shirvell August 19, 2012 at 09:46 pm
No word on the dog

Yes, for both of them.
Mike Hunt August 19, 2012 at 10:33 pm
There's a woman missing, possibly dead, and you worry about the dog first?
Karen Walker August 19, 2012 at 10:56 pm
I know the dog was saved, even had a life jacket on. Animal control from Groton was caring for the dog. Pray for the poor woman's safe return.

They were brought into Noank shipyard not Noank Village boatyard.
L Murphy August 19, 2012 at 11:55 pm
I thought it was interesting that they merged the two:
Noank Shipyard + Noank Village Boatyard= Noank Village Shipyard. Maybe they thought it sounded more quaint ;) Very few boats can make it under the bridge to the Noank Village Boatyard at low tide, nevermind high. Watching the flashing lights off the northwest side of Fishers as I type, and hoping that they find her.

Thanks for all the updates guys. Joseph Pinciaro just talked to the Coast Guard who said a helicopter was called in from Cape Cod to continue to the search and there are boats conducting a surface search.

Bridge? to get to Noank Village Boatyard? Otherwise known as Helbig's?
That would only be if you came out from Beebe Cove under the RR bridge....

Thanks Karen. I had been trying to find out about the dog. Glad they had a life jacket on him. Hopefully the woman is found and is ok.

Thank you Bree for doing an outstanding job keeping folks updated. Now all we can do is pray.

This is terrible. Unfortunately, at approx. 8:30PM the divers were called out of the water due to darkness and ocean current issues. Let's all pray that the missing woman is found alive soon!
Joseph L. Escalante Jr. August 20, 2012 at 01:31 am
Oooops! I meant to indicate the divers were called out of the water at approx. 8:03PM. (Source: U.S. Coast Guard VHF radio Marine Channel 22). It has also since been reported that the search is now a "recovery operation".
Lesa August 20, 2012 at 01:34 am
Absolutely heartless, inane comment..... hope you are proud of yourself.
L Murphy August 20, 2012 at 01:35 am
Sorry. As soon as you said "Helbig's" I realized where it was,-- the road where the old Abbot's cannery and Saint Joe's church were. I was thinking that Avery's yard inside the cove had taken on a different name, as so many have. Two choppers over my house as I type, and I've read that search has been suspended.

Where are all the police boats? I haven't seen the City of Groton's police boat all year. My thought is, if you can't do the job of policing the area, close down and become one department and then you can afford to do the job the right way. It is a shame that we can't do this and the community is suffering. Just another example of why someone needs to step up and do the right thing before someone else gets hurt because of it. The boat patrol is part of the job in a shoreline community and its too bad because the police boats are always the first ones on a scene like this.
Chris Johnson August 20, 2012 at 12:21 pm
I'm not a fan of police, but saying that it's the police's fault for someone hitting a rock with their boat is ridiculous. People just have to be more careful in area that they are either unfamiliar with or areas that are known to have a lot of rocks/shoals. I was half a mile from the incident yesterday, and went over to examine it around 5. Radio was going off like crazy. Bizarre, tragic scene.

Dannyboy needs to get his head out of his a$$!
Seriously, it was accident. What do expect, the City of Groton Police to chaperone all boats out in the water? Moron.
