Gas Leak Briefly Evacuates Pawcatuck Middle School

Pawcatuck Middle School was evacuated for about an hour this morning.

A gas leak caused the brief evacuation of this morning. According to an email sent to the Stonington Public Schools community, at about 9:10 a.m. Pawcatuck Middle School was evacuated after an odor of natural gas was noticed outside of the building.

Students and Pawcatuck Middle School personnel stayed in the back athletic fields while , and Yankee Gas responded to the leak.

A loose-fitting supply line outside of the building was found to be the cause of the leak. At 10:10 a.m. Pawcatuck Fire and Yankee Gas determined it was safe for students and personnel to return to the building.
