Victim Identified In Fatal Crash with School Bus on Pequot Trail

A Westerly woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7:20 a.m. accident.

4 p.m. Update: 

Stonington Police have identified the victim in Monday morning's fatal crash on Pequot Trail as Sarah Delano, 26, of Granite Street in Westerly.

Delano was traveling west on Pequot Trail when police said her vehicle crossed the center line and struck the school bus. There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the accident.

According to police, the school bus, operated by Jane Toth, 69, of Lester Avenue, Pawcatuck, was traveling east on Pequot trail when the passenger vehicle driven by Delano crossed the left of center and struck the bus.

Ambulance personnel from the Westerly Ambulance Corps pronounced Delano deceased at the scene; her body was released to the Connecticut Medical Examiner's Office, police said. 

The accident is under investigation by the Stonington police and the Department of Motor Vehicles' commercial inspection unit according to SPD Capt. Jerry Desmond.

The driver of a car involved in an accident with an empty school bus this morning has died.

The accident happened just after 7 a.m. on Pequot Trail between Farmholme Road and Sergio Franchi Drive. Pequot Trail is still closed as police investigate the accident.

The driver of the school bus was not injured. The victim's gender was not released.
