UPDATED: Election Day 2012: Stonington

Where to vote, the list of candidates, and how the town voted in past elections. Check back mid-day for updates from the polling stations.

Updated: 3 p.m.: Voting slowed down a bit at Stonington's polling places this afternoon, but was expected to pick up in the early evening. At District 5, School Administration Building, by 2 p.m. almost 50 percent of the district's 1400 registered voters had cast ballots. And at District 1, Stonington Borough Firehouse, by 2:30 p.m. almost 50 percent of that district's registered voters had cast ballots. Polls are open until 8 p.m.

Updated: 10 a.m.: Four hours into Election Day 2012 and polling places around Stonington are very busy. Police directed traffic outside of the Deans Mill School, Pawcatuck Firehouse and B.F. Hoixe Firehouse polling locations as cars waited to park.

Lines inside the polling locations were moving fairly quickly voters at the Pawcatuck Firehouse and B.F. Hoixe Firehouse said.

All five Stonington polling places are open.

5:45 a.m.: Good morning, and welcome to Election Day 2012!

Today, Stonington residents go to the polls to choose a president, a U.S. Senator, a U.S. Representative from the Second District, a state Senator from the 18th District and a state Representative from the 43rd District.

See below for information on where to go to cast your ballot and the list of candidates. We've also included how Stonington voted in 2008, the year of the last presidential election, and in 2010, the last mid-term election.

Read it over, then visit your local polling station between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. to make your voice heard! And be sure to check back with Patch for updates throughout the day, including the announcement of the winners as soon as votes are tallied.

The Stonington Town Clerk's office will be closed on Election Day for all regular business except for the issuance of presidential ballots.
