Marseglia Named PZC Chairman

John Prue Elected Vice Chair; PZC Discusses Zoning Regulations Change and POCD

The Planning and Zoning Commission elected a new chairman, vice chairman and secretary Tuesday.

Robert Marseglia was elected chairman in a unanimous vote; John Prue was named vice chairman and Frances Hoffman was voted in as secretary.

Marseglia, an engineer at Electric Boat, has spent the past seven years on the board beginning as an alternate. He ran for a Board of Education seat in 2009 as a Republican and lost. He served as co-chairman of the ‘School Based Improvement Team.’

Marseglia, said he was appreciative of the “support” from fellow commissioners, and promised to take a cue from now former chairman John Swenarton and “run these meetings as fairly as possible.”

In other commission news, the group continued its discussion on creating the work group which will be tasked with drafting the town’s 2014 . Besides , the PZC is still ruminating on whether or not to enlist the help of a professional writer with related experience, perhaps a volunteer from the town, commissioners said.

Also Tuesday, the PZC discussed modifications to the zoning regulation that defines the rules related to excavation and filling in development projects.

The matter was raised in October during the public hearings on the now approved but by the PZC to bless an attached housing subdivision for a site at the intersection of Mary Hall and Greenhaven roads in Pawcatuck.  

Marseglia suggested that the commission and the town would be best served if the entire regulation was re-written. Prue volunteered to “take a stab at it.”
