Happy August!

It's not over till the moment you say it is ...so say it isn't so!

Yes, a good portion of the summer has gone by and I hope it has been GOOD to you. BUT there is still the best and juiciest part of the summer left; it's ripe, blossomed and ready to delve into.

The 8th month of our calendar was presumably named after the roman emperor Augustus and means: inspiring awe or admiration; majestic. Yes indeed, August is a majestic time of the summer.

It's been a busy summer. The busiest ever? Sometimes things become a blur and we get lost in the details.

We live in a time where specialization is the key to success and niche markets are the places to find the action. Specialization is a good thing because details gain greater focus and complexities are broken down to reveal their individual components.

The way to make the most out of the details and get all the nutrients out of the ripe fruit of your specialized labor is to turn the closeup lens around once in a while and zoom out to view the whole. Don't forget to turn around and see the wide panoramic view.

One must take time to re-integrate every time a milestone has been reached. Another way to say this is: take the time to re-visit your accomplishments, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem.

8 Ways To Balance In August:

  1. Be in awe. Um, seriously, is there a better time than august? Especially when there is sun, blue sky, puffy clouds and a nice breeze.
  2. Enjoy the ripeness. The garden is bursting with stuff; the tomatoes are ripening and the zuchinis are having a difficult time containing their enthusiasm, enjoy!
  3. Focus on now. This is the ultimate balancing act! Now is a tiny and elusive spot. Try to be here now without too much dawdeling in the past or over-thinking the future.
  4. See the details. Find a niche. Dig with a little shovel. Explore the closeups that life has to offer.
  5. Zoom out. While grounding yourself in the now and seeing some of the details zoom out and see the big picture.
  6. Re-integrate. This may require a hammock and a quenching drink. Sit back and allow the mind to be think-less and the body to be go-less.
  7. Re-visit. Revisit your accomplishments and the good times you've had this summer and then be glad that it's still not over!
  8. Ride a bike. If you haven't taken your bike out this summer it's not too late! There are free bikes in downtown Mystic or go buy one at Mystic Cycle Center.

Enjoy August. Have fun delving into the details...and re-integrating them into the WHOLE.
