What We Have Accomplished Together!

Superstorm Sandy & Blizzard Nemo swept our area in 2012 & 2013 with massive power outages and damage to several areas community. The community worked together to communicate the situation to residents and assist each other in a time of need. I am so proud and honored to be part of a great team of people working hard and ready, willing, and eager to continue to lead our Town of Stonington. These great accomplishments have come with great collaboration including:

 ·         We weathered and rebuilt after the damage that occurred with several major weather incidents.

·         We passed and implementing $3.6 million dollar Road Bond Project which will improve 63% of the roads in town.

·         We also passed and implementing $2.7 million dollar Fields Bond Project which includes new all-weather field.

·         We continued our economic development endeavors building on our achievement of Zachry Corporation two years ago.  Such additions include The Westerly Sun, Tractor Supply, L&M Diagnostics, Airwell H2O and soon West Marine are making Stonington home.

·         We have aggressively addressed distressed buildings including several Mechanic St. properties and the long time Vacca Building who has a new tenant

·         We worked with Nature Conservancy, Stonington Land Trust, Avalonia Land Trust and DEEP to remove Rutan Dam, alleviating potential flood issue in Stonington

·         We re-organized two town departments and added a new Manager to Human Services.

·         Finally, we implemented several initiatives including the Town Prescription Card, continued our Donahue Park Concerts, and developed a “Starting a Business in Stonington” guide and administered a “Economic and Social Impacts of Public Charities in Stonington” study.

In addition, I am proud of our 0.0% Average Annual Town Government Budget increase over past six years making Stonington one of the lowest mill rates in Southeastern CT. This judicious town budget approach has allowed the budget to be consistently approved on 1st Referendum for the last five years.

But we have more initiatives to accomplish including more affordable senior housing, continuing to improve infrastructure, rebuilding schools, bringing more jobs to our town, and continuing efficiency and effectiveness within our Town Government. As I continue to work hard in my position, I am very excited to be hitting the pavement to meet with residents and look forward to debating my opponent about the issues. As Bill Clinton stated, “The future is not an inheritance, it is an opportunity and an obligation”. I ask for your vote on Line 1B and your support on November 5th for re-election as First Selectman.
